Classes will consist of several techniques of Ceramics / Pottery.
Ceramic Dry-Brush: This will be a make and take class. These are pre-cast bisque ceramic pieces, that will be painted with acrylic paint and spraying with a sealer. Drybrush is a painting technique in which a paint brush that is relatively dry, creating a washed appearance. Samples will be provided in Pottery studio and below sample pictures. Very basic pottery for decoration only, not food safe. Animals are normally good dry brushing pieces.
Ceramic Glazing: This is normally a one night class when using a pre-cast bisque piece, then you pick up your completed piece the following week after firing in kiln. Glazing is a coating substance which is fused to the ceramic body through firing, Glaze serves to color, decorate, water proof or make food safe. Depending on Glaze type it is normally a shiny or glassy coating finish.
Cookie Cutter Pottery Class: More geared for children, family and simple projects. Clay can be hand rolled by rolling pins or by using the slab roller, then pieces can be hand cut or use cookie cutters to create projects. Sample Project: Wind Chime Class, Wall Hanging, Necklaces
Handbuilding Pottery Projects: Handbuilding will be done using techniques such as pinch, coils or slab pieces to create your creation. These classes are normally 2 to 3 classes in length, depending on project. Class 1: Normally to design and build, then project will be fired. Class 2: Normally to glaze your piece and prepare for firing. Class 3: Could be assembling your project if required. Note: Some classes may take two classes to design and build. The studio is equipped with many tools, stamps, and items that will help you create your creative pottery piece. Sample Projects: Coffee Mug, Pitcher, Bird Houses, Vases, etc.
Pottery Wheel Throwing: A potter's wheel is a machine used in the shaping of round ceramic ware. Currently only one wheel is available for Open Studio time and sign-up is required ahead of time To avoid 3 or 4 wanting to use at same time.
Open Studio: Will be available twice monthly. The base fee person will be $10.00 for three hours and material fees will be applicable based on usage. Firing charges will be a separate fee based on size. Prices will be posted in Studio. You can also use your own materials if desired.
